My lovely wife went off the the supermarket the other day and bought a loaf of brown bread (amongst other things).
As she exited the supermarket she walked over to the local bakery franchise, Bakers Delight, to buy a pull-apart. The young guy behind the counter saw that she had a loaf of bread in her Woolworths bag and said something along the lines of “What have you bought that bread for? Ours is better!”
He said “Hand it over and I’ll give you a great loaf of bread.”
With that, he threw my wife’s loaf of wholemeal bread in the bin and handed over a loaf of Bakers Delight wholemeal.
Now that is brilliant marketing.
He’s demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for his own product, he’s initiated an opportunity for product testing and he’s done it in such a way that it’s memorable and remarkable.
The cheeky little bastard!
Now whenever my wife goes to buy wholemeal bread from that supermarket/Bakers Delight, you can bet your bottom dollar she’ll buy the Bakers Delight.
Nice marketing by the young fella.
