One of the biggies in selling your product or service

March 7, 2013 by Brendon Sinclair

I’m a guy and that means I think I’m perfect! (Us guys are all ego driven!)

But I’m actually not perfect. I’m short-sighted – which means things far away are a bit of a blur.

So I wear contact lenses. Soft, disposable contact lenses that last about 2 weeks. When I take my contacts out each night I store them in a little case filled with a special liquid. This liquid is Normal Saline – basically just a sterile salt water.

I ran out of Saline today (Sunday) and only remembered to buy some at 4.50 pm. I found some at the local supermarket and it gave me the thought of a terrific (I hope!) article.

One of the most important things that is needed for people to buy your product is this:

Your customers must be able to buy your product

It sounds a bit stupid, I agree. But it’s a fundamental truth.

If your product or service isn’t available when your customer wants to buy it, then you won’t sell it.

And the Saline I purchased today is the perfect example.

I paid $7.95 for 355 mls of Normal Saline. That’s quite expensive. I’ve paid even more for it before. And I’ve paid just $2 for two- (2) litres.

  • The reason I purchased the brand of Saline I did was simple. Because it was the only one for sale in the supermarket.
  • One of the reasons I purchased an Avanti triathlon bike is because that was available in the bike shop.
  • The reason I purchased a Michel Rouen shirt the other day is because it was in the clothes shop I visited.

Your product has to be available to buy

I have dealt with quite a few companies who have developed worthwhile products. And the toughest thing they do is get that product into stores.

You can have the greatest product or service in the world. But unless your product is in stores where your customer frequents, or your service is very easily findable (if that’s a word) then you won’t sell a thing.

There are plenty of companies selling Normal Saline, all at different price points. I purchased one of the most expensive ones because that was the only one I could buy.

Get your product or service in a position to be able to purchased. Get it into as many places as possible to be purchased. Then approach your potential customer and tell them all about it and where they can buy it.

Distribution is a critical component of marketing. Get out there and get your product or service into as many places as possible!

Cheers
