Gold Coast Accommodation Resorts

April 11, 2011

Here on the Gold Coast, Queensland there are literally hundreds of holiday accommodation resorts – after all, the Gold Coast is Australia’s playground and we get millions of visitors each year. And all of these tourists accommodation.

A lot of publicity recently here on the Gold Coast about the need for tourists to fill up empty accommodation. Part of the reason is that Gold Coast accommodation resorts are struggling because the New Zealand dollar has plunged against the Australian dollar making it, in effect, far more expensive for New Zealanders to come and stay at Gold Coast resorts.

Keep that in mind next time you go to book accommodation on the Gold or Sunshine Coasts.

Like I always say, the money is better off in your pocket than theirs.

Beware ‘Official’ Gold Coast Sites

It’s hard to find the right accommodation here on the Gold Coast – after all, everyone says theirs is the best. Everyone says how close they are to the beach. Everyone says how they provide the best value.

I’ve even seen a resort about 20 minutes drive from the beach say they’re “Close to the beach”. You don’t want that – some sneaky person ruining your Gold Coast holiday before it even starts. Where your Gold Coast accommodation is is critical. Here are my top tips:

Top 3 Gold Coast Tips For Accommodation

  • Get a resort close to the beach – there’s nothing worse than having to trudge miles to hit the surf. After all, the beach is the biggest attraction. I’d recommend beachfront accommodation or, at the most, one street back. Resort managers tell me it’s a bit of a pain living all the time right on the beach – the sand tends to build up – but for short stays it’s perfect.
  • Get a resort close to Surfers Paradise – lots of the attractions are in Surfers Paradise and you don’t want to waste your time traveling. Be aware that the main theme parks like DreamWorld, MovieWorld and Wet ‘n’ Wild are about 20 minutes drive away at Coomera (on the M1 Highway). There are no resorts out there. SeaWorld is the only one close to Surfers – it’s about 3 km out of the middle of Surfers.
  • Look around for the best deal – there are some fantastic deals to be done because of the very healthy competition amongst resorts.
